We tend to follow the Hubspot blog, which has excellent ideas and ebooks regarding social networking. It's free, and these guys really seem to know their stuff.

One note: there are so many social networing 'experts' out there -- beware. Check them out well before engaging them. And, if you have the time, there are so many free resources, it might be a better route to go. Just a thought

Right on. So many people clam up when hacked, or try to cover up the damage that might have occurred to those whose records might be comprimised, which only makes it worse for all involved in the end. Communicate, communicate, communicate...that's the key.

There are so many things that are now free. Facebook is a great example. Look what it's doing to Classmates.com and MyLife.com, two sites that charge for membership. They're practically out of business. I think the same holds true for so many things. So, the question really is: can one charge for expertise rather than the actual product or service? Apple seems to do a pretty good job in this area...

Great minds think alike. I find myself passing up things at the supermarket unless they're on sale. I see my customers, all of whom are small business (I have a business service company) do the same. If something goes on sale, that becomes the price/value. Period. Recently, I saw an ad for Carbonite backup that touted the fact that it cost $59 per year per computer. I thought "great..let's check into it". Turned out to be for home backups, business plans were $230 a year and not unlimited space. Not such a deal. But, I keep thinking that unlimited backup for a year for $59...it sort of becomes a value thing with me. Anyone else think that way?

Thanks for your post, as always. Personally, I hate it when a company, generally to much fanfare, posts a Facebook page and then let's it whither and die. Makes one wonder about their follow up after the customer acquisition process....

My 13-year old uses the web for almost all his homework. His assignments, grades, messages from teachers, even electronic copies of his textbooks are all on the school's Engrade site. Plus, he uses Google and Wikipedia to do homework research. Not sure if the web's founders had 13 year olds in mind when they developed it, but it makes one aspect of parenting a lot easier...

I just got the new iPhone 4s with Siri, and am probably not very good with it yet, but I seem to do better dealing with searches like I always have...they seem to be more accurate.

You're right tho, once Siri and personal assistants mature, they'll knock the SEO world on its ear.

What amazes me is that I find myself using the web everywhere. For example,I'm reading this blog on my iPad while on the trek home via the commuter rail.

The amount of information available anywhere is just staggering. I find THAT to be the biggest change of all...

Thanks for the post.

@Senni: you raise a good point, but Isuspect that more and more, people will turn to Siri-like apps for search purposes. I already see it happening in my own family & close circle of friends
